Memory Monday #2---and first glimpse of gardening

I hope a corner of my garden looks like
 this some day
Yesterday the weather was beautiful. I went out side and was able to walk to the other side of the yard where the daylilies are planted with my boots only touching grass not snow. It was awesome! Not that I don't love winter, but a person can only take so much. When I got to the daylilies I had fear in my heart. I had just read that if you are in the north you need to plant your daylilies in the spring because they need time to develop a good root system before the snow. We didn't do that. We planted in the fall, just a few weeks before the first snow. So as I was out there walking closer I could feel anxiety overcome me, we had worked so hard at tilling that spot for the lilies I didn't want to see all that hard work and broken belt on the rototiller for nothing. When I got to the bed it looked sad. But I examined closely. And what did I see? NEW GROWTH! I praised my Heavenly Father for protecting the Daylilies, so we can have beauty around us this coming year. On the way back I stopped and checked the garlic bed. I lifted some straw and found it was still ice on top of the soil. I have more faith in them. They are hardy. I also learned that garlic can grow right through a straw mulch. Which is awesome so I leave that there and have no weeding. :) There is about 70 head of garlic out there. I hope to plant more next year. My seedlings that I started a few months ago are growing strong. I should have done this yesterday when the weather was so nice but I need to transplant my tomatoes. They are almost a foot tall already. I fear I will most likely be harvesting tomatoes before I even plant them in their beds. However, I will be repotting them deep, tomatoes are one of the plants that you can plant the stem all the way up to the first set of leaves in soil, and they will grow roots. Sweet! My herbs are growing well too. I may even have to repot them already. Since it is still early I can repot them, and then I can reuse the peat pod and start some more seeds. Gardening is so exciting. I think I like it more this year because I am creating a raised bed sanctuary. I have not measured exactly yet, but all I know is it is going to be gorgeous. I have ideas flowing thru my head that I need to get on paper, because all this illustration and Relief Society and Peggles stuff gets bumped to the top of my priorities. Not to mention Orion and Ike. They are always at the top and taking up the most room. My brain is getting crammed. So if I right it down I won't forget and I can make room and have a relaxed mind for the project at hand.
Oh I also was contacted by a woman interested in my doula services. That's right I was contacted. How awesome is that! I am never contacted. I hope she choses the person that is right for her and her family. :)

Memory Monday #2----sorry it's late---

I was woken today March 22, 2011 by the sound of rain/snow on the windows. It sounded like someone was crinkling cellophane paper or a video tape. As I lay in bed listening, Orion who was playing in his bed came up to me with hands clasped and said "Mommy, you'll never guess what I have in my hands." I looked at him waited with a smile for him to tell me. "FAERIES!" He was so excited! He informed me that he had Tinkerbell and Vidia in his hand and he could not be too loud because he didn't want Daddy to know that he had them. Ike was turned facing the wall so we didn't know that he was actually awake trying to stifle his laughter. I love the imagination this child has. I love the trust he shows in us, and I love his personality. I love the way he has compassion for all living things. We are constantly reminded that animals are living things that Jesus created so we need to love them and thank them when they are yummy.  It makes me very proud to be his mother.

Memory Monday #1

I know I know. I said I didn't want to do themes anymore and here I am with another themed day. Anywho. I thought I would start Memory Monday. I want to share things with my child(ren). So here is a spot where I will do so.

March 5, 2011

It was night. I was upstairs working on something. 4 year old Orion was playing with toys and Ike was downstairs working on his gun. Orion wanted to empty out one of his containers that had toys in it. And take the container downstairs. I watched him drag the bright red Rubber-maid Tub out the door (because of the layout of the house that was all I could see) Soon I heard thuds down the stairs, laughter and "Wee---" down the stairs until there was a crash and then some crying. Apparently Orion thought this would be an easier way to get the bin down the stairs since it was larger than him. After I checked that he was alright, I nearly died of laughter. Just because the sound was so funny and since I didn't see the actual act I could only imagine the expression of pure joy and then the sudden change to fear as he crashed into the antique oak dining room table at the bottom of the stairs. Next time hopefully Orion wears a helmet, and some body armor.

Orion's Dragon

Every night Orion and I lay in bed and write a story together. It is about Orion and his dragon, Moose. Moose is a girl and moose is Orion's best friend. I just thought I would share that this is what we do. And Here is how the story ended last night.

Sweet and Innocent.

So right now everyone in the house is a sleep taking a nap; so I thought I would take a little down time for my self.

Orion was the most awesome little boy today. He sat almost the entire time through Sacrament Meeting with out making a fuss. He told me he didn't need his back pack with things to do so we left it in the coat closet. It wasn't until there was maybe 10 minutes left that he started to get antsy and asked for his color-book and crayons. WOOT! We are making progress. And then what is even better is he went to primary with out a fuss. He is growing so much and there is so much I want to teach him. It got me reflecting on how I don't know that much about the gospel. I mean I know the basics, but I am in no means a scriptorian. I am in no way a person who can remember what she reads even when she is totally involved in it. So how am I supposed to teach that to my son. As an unschooler I try really hard not to force things for him to learn about.. I guess I just feel like a minority. Yes there are alot of LDS homeschoolers, however LDS unschoolers is another thing.

Anyway, I feel like I need help to teach Orion the gospel. Maybe that will be a subject we will HAVE to learn. He get so excited when we have family home evening and I am grateful for that. He loves learning, and is such a bright child. Sometimes I wonder who took my 4 year old and replaced him with a 7 year old. It baffles my mind.

I guess this blog post was just a little thing to straighten out things in my mind. What I have come up with is I am going to make some lapbooks on different topics from our gospel doctrine. And that way if he wants to pick them up and look at them after we go over everything he can and he will understand them.

Good,
Great,
Glad we figured that out.

In the mood...

I honestly have been wanting to blog but have not had the time. Being 1st counselor in  Relief Society is certainly using up time in my life ( not that I am complaining, I like feeling important), trying to do doula homework (still looking for more pregnant ladies by the way, ( I may know of one I want to approach, I mean the worst she can do is say no... right?) , Oh and did I mention I have the honor of illustrating a book on homebirth. WOOT! I am so excited. When the book is published you guys are going to be so blown away by the story. I found it very inspiring and the author did a wonderful job. :)
So the Book Nourishing Traditions showed up on my door step a couple days ago.

L.O.V.E

There is no other word to describe it. I have been trying so hard to avoid junk food. I think my problem is I have no will power. Any-who, I made live yogurt with probiotics yesterday and it is already 3/4 of the way gone. I have sauerkraut a brewing and I have bread dough rising for tomorrow. I am thinking about making something with Lentils tomorrow as well. But if I do that I need to get them soaking before I go to sleep. ^_^. We had oatmeal soaked overnight this morning and it was surprisingly yummy. Granted you could tip the bowl upside down and nothing would come out.

I have learned so much just in the past couple of days about food that it is just amazing.. I will most definitely be changing dieting habits and basing them off of this book and a few others I want to get or at least read.

The walk from getting the Christmas tree... Notice the non-existent mittens....Grrr...

Sorry, life happens.

I need to post a major apology to the faithful readers I have. I have been so carried away with real life that I have not been posting. Sorry. Life Happens.

So any who we have been very busy around here. As you last heard, my BFF from highschool got married. YAY! That is so exciting. I have been busting my butt around here. Our yard is a disaster, so in preparation for winter I decided I needed to clean a little. So I cleaned the entrance up to the house. I was going to do more but ended up installing a sidewalk all by myself. That was oddly hard work. :P Ike finally has a job. YAY! (insert happy dance here). It is a temporary job, but it is a job. We are still hoping to hear from his first interview. They said they would call this week, but so far nothing. (it is not looking good.) On Monday Ike will call.

I have one photo to share with you today. It is a photo of a very sad boy who misses his daddy and doesn't believe me when I tell him he will return from work in a few hours.

It makes me sad to see Orion so down. :C

Okay so  I lied here are some photos of our leaf hunting extravaganza. :D

Momma I want these ones!
I am tempted to mess with the layout of the blog again. Everybody get ready for some chaos!

I feel so busy!

I got the urge to take some shots of Orion, I want to draw them. Something got me wanting to draw again. I think it was seeing Chris's post.

This is Ike's Swedish Candle. I think it looks cool!

My husband made this. It is his second one. I think it is beautiful! It is made of Cherry and sealed with Tung oil.
Look at those eyes. They are so deep. ;)
This is the one I am going to draw most definitely.

All I can say is I love my Nikon. Even if it has been dropped a few times...

UGH.. Yesterday was a day.

This is the after shot of the project in the video.  Man, that was such a mess. I like it much better this way. And since I cleaned it and made it all pretty. My mom bought me The Orchid. So once this project is complete I will be starting on that one.

I am super excited because I already have a story line figured out in my head. So dorky I know right.

Today was a good day. Orion behaved very well in Sacrament meeting. Normally he is kicking and screaming to get away. He was still, the only bad part was that he was lying on the floor. But I guess that is better than being disruptive to the rest of the members of the branch. I really enjoyed both talks today.  Even though I didn't get to hear the second part of Sydney's. I liked where it was going. Orion went to Nursery again today. He just doesn't like to stay for Primary. I don't know what to do. I hope I can figure out a way to transition him over to Sunbeams that will let him know that it is just as fun as nursery. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Just remember that we are dealing with a child who does not listen to his parents. It is like we are invisible. And he is only 3. What is it going to be like when he is actually a teenager. Scary! Anywho there is a plus. Orion has been reading scriptures every day. I point to the words as we read along. At the rate we are going I am going to need a magnifying glass before we finish the old testament. However he did read 3 this afternoon. So I think every once and a while we will add another verse.
